Poulton-le-Fylde is a
kaleidoscope of colour and old world charm.
This ancient market town with its cobbled streets, market place complete with medieval stocks, and historic church makes the perfect setting for the superb floral decorations that adorn the town each year. Small wonder that Poulton takes top honours in the prestigious 'Britain in Bloom' competition. |
Poulton-le-Fylde is
mentioned in the Doomsday Book and once famous for its
market the town grew around the Parish Church of St.
Chad's which is surrounded by several pubs - no doubt a
legacy to the days when hostelries had to cater for the
thirsts of visiting farmers and market traders!
Poulton's fascinating history can be traced on one of the regular Town Trails organised by the local Historical Society details of which are available from Tourist Information Centres. |
In contrast to its ancient centre Poulton has superb up-to-date shopping arcades and a modern swimming centre. And with ample parking in the heart of the town, all amenities are easily accessible to visitors.
For the more active Poulton has one of Wyre's superb golf courses
- a testing 9 hole course surrounded by farm and fields. Renowned
for its warmth and hospitality this charming town with its
historic buildings and friendly atmosphere attracts visitors year
after year.
