This site uses the PDF format for delivery of Rally
forms and Newsletters.
Rally Forms:-
If
indicated by a GREEN button on the Rally Programme or available under
"Booking Forms" under the Rally Programme drop-down menu, then that specific form is
available for downloading, viewing & printing.
Rally details are produced by the relevant rally officer
for the rally and so the style and quality varies greatly.
If the rally officer or an associate emails me the raw document then they are
converted directly to PDF for high quality presentation, in the event of not
receiving the raw document electronically then a scanned image of a 'gathered'
(usually at a rally), form is scanned, converted and subsequently presented as a
PDF file.
Unfortunately at much lower quality and larger filesize that the direct emailed
copy!
Newsletters:-
The newsletters are also in PDF format, but due to the
high compression ratio the PDF creator is set in order to minimise the filesize,
you may notice occasionally some characters will 'blend' or a character space
may appear where there should not be one.
Unfortunately this is a problem that cannot be resolved without increasing the
newsletter filesize to what would be an unacceptable level for both server
storage space and those users still connecting via a dial-up service.
Do be aware that the PDF newsletters may not display until the final page has
been received by you from the server. This can take up to 2½ mins on a slow broadband connection and as long as 10 minutes on a dial up, but its always
worth the wait! A clue as to whether the file is coming down to you can usually
be gathered by observing the dial up icon (the little screens) in the systray
for data flow.
Rally
form & newsletter links are easy to deal with.
Click the green button or link on the page and a separate window with the
Acrobat Reader should open with the form/newsletter displayed.
Printing:- If you require a hard copy just click the print button
in the Acrobat Reader.
Saving:- If you wish to save a PDF file to your hard disk for later
viewing or printing, click the save file button in the Acrobat Reader and follow the
Windows prompts through to specify destination and
filename.
Possible Problems:-
If a separate window does not open within your browser then you may not have Acrobat
installed or configured correctly. One of the common problems is that you may
not be allowing 3rd party browser extensions to operate. To cure this Go to:
Start>Control Panel>Internet Options then click the Advanced Tab and check the
box under the Browsing section next to "Allow 3rd Party Browser Extensions
(requires restart)" Then you obviously need to do a restart!
It could be that you don't have a copy of the Acrobat Reader on your PC -
but 95% of PC
users have, albeit unknowingly! Also should you find characters
missing in any document you may need to upgrade your reader. In either case the latest version
is always available from the Adobe
Website free of charge.
