North Lancashire Centre History

NLCC Map

The UK Caravan Club has a social organisation, this is split into 10 regions/divisions and 72 Centres one of which is The North Lancashire Centre (NLCC).

Each centre is run by a committee and organises caravan rallies (gatherings!), and social events virtually every weekend of the year.

The Lancashire Centre of "The Caravan Club" was split into two regions: North Lancashire and South Lancashire back in 1966.
The inaugural rally of The North Lancashire Centre was held appropriately at Lancaster over the Easter period in 1967, and the 25 year Silver Jubilee celebration rally was held at Beckfoot Park near Kirkby Lonsdale in June 1992.

Above is an approximate map of the North Lancashire Region. The boundary to the East & North being that of the old Lancashire county prior to 1974. The boundary to the South (bordering with the South Lancashire Centre) is less clearly defined but tends to follow parish boundaries to the South of Preston.

For those who need to understand Caravan Rallying, it is best described as a social club on wheels. Members of various caravan clubs meet weekends at prearranged venues to enjoy the freedom of camping in a Caravan, Motor Home or Trailer Tent.

Website History

We the North Lancashire Centre were the very first centre to have a presence on the internet, even before the Caravan Club itself.  Nowadays nearly all the other centres and regions have a website some of them following and copying our layout and ideas.

This website has been serving the members of the North Lancashire Centre since mid 1997 when many people, and members, were completely unaware of the internet, wondering what the strange, and rare to find;  http, www & .com words on various literature and in some advertisements actually meant.
How things have changed!

Prior to launching this site in mid 1997 some NLCC centre information had been held, (since 1991) on the North Lancashire Bulletin Board (NLBB), which was operated by myself, the current webmaster, as a public dial up service.

Since those early days and with the development of better DHTML & Java coding providing far better facilities to display pictures and information, this website will only develop further and hopefully go from strength to strength.
