Cleveleys

Cleveleys is where North Lancashire BBS is based.
 

Cleveleys is a small urban village sandwiched between Blackpool and Fleetwood on the Fylde Coast in Lancashire. 

It is approx 5 miles North of Blackpool and 4 miles South of Fleetwood and not belonging to Blackpool Borough Council, but to Wyre District Council.

Giving it it's full name of  Thornton-Cleveleys it also encompasses the village of Thornton approx 1 mile to the East. Thornton (Torentum), is mentioned in the doomsday book of the 11th century. 

 Cleveleys has become over the years mainly a quiet and sedate retirement area attracting elderly people from the inland towns of Bolton, Oldham, Manchester, etc.

Tourist Information-

Just to the north of Blackpool lies the popular seaside resort of Cleveleys. It offers a chance to enjoy the bright lights yet relax in a quieter environment. Easily accessible from Blackpool via the trams that run straight through the heart of Cleveleys and on to Fleetwood.

A thriving town which boasts excellent visitor accommodation all within a short walking distance of the town and seafront. Cleveleys is one of Wyre's busiest shopping areas with a wide variety of shops and markets, there is something to suit everyone.

The towns traditional seafront provides entertainment for all the family, with indoor amusement arcades and bingo. For those who enjoy the outdoors, Jubilee Gardens overlooking the promenade offers hours of leisure and pleasure. You can try your hand at bowling or get a few tips from the experts at regular bowls tournaments. Simply relax in the pleasant gardens and enjoy the variety of entertainment which is provided throughout the season. The more active can choose from pitch and putt, tennis or crazy golf, whilst the young ones happily amuse themselves in the kiddies play area.

Sports facilities can also be found at the nearby leisure centre with a variety of pitches, equipment and a full programme of activities.

Cleveleys beach bungalows, which overlook the sea on the promenade, can be hired either daily or weekly. Each bungalow is equipped with cooking facilities and table and chairs, which allows you to enjoy your day out at the beach without the need to venture back into town for lunch. You can hire the bungalows at the Ticket Office at Jubilee Gardens.

Events for all the family are to be found within the town. Cleveleys Jubilee Day is a fun day out crammed full with a parade, displays, stalls and a programme of entertainment. The town's annual gala in June has a colourful procession and events on the gala field.

The neighbouring village of Thornton, gives the opportunity to explore the natural beauty of the Wyre Estuary Country Park, which also has an interesting visitor centre and bird hide. Marsh-Mill-in-Wyre, a historic - windmill runs guided tours to the top of the mill which also houses the northern clog museum. The surrounding village complex has a range of speciality shops, tavern and tea room and regular events are held throughout the season.
